Summary of Position
Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources and partnering closely with HR, Operations, and Finance leadership, the Director of EHS will lead and advance Clyde’s enterprise risk management strategy across environmental, compliance, occupational health and safety, and property & casualty insurance programs. This new hands-on leadership role is being added to prepare Clyde’s for further growth and expansion. With a mandate to elevate (1) the “employee experience” internally as Clyde’s pursues Great Place to Work® certification, and (2) the Clyde’s company brand externally, the Director will create a high-engagement, self-sustaining safety culture that safeguards employee well-being and delivers measurable business outcomes and better than benchmark performance.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Serve as EHS subject matter expert, acting as the primary company representative with regulatory agencies and municipal authorities on all compliance-related matters.
- Serve as EHS subject matter expert (assessment and recommendations) for capital projects, plant expansions, equipment changes, and contractor safety.
- Manage (in partnership with maintenance department) environmental testing, permitting, reporting, and regulatory submissions related to applicable environment items (air, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, Tier II/TRI, SPCC).
- Develop and execute a multi-year EHS compliance and risk mitigation strategy to consistently achieve an EMR = 1.0, maintain TRIR meaningfully below the applicable NAICS benchmark, and ensure full compliance with all required OSHA and environmental standards and reporting requirements.
- Establish, standardize, and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, and management systems across all sites.
- Develop and oversee a rigorous audit and inspection program. Conduct facility-level audits, risk assessments, and daily plant walkthroughs to proactively identify hazards and compliance gaps. Coach operations management and plant hourly employees on mindfulness and prompt remediation of non-conforming conditions (“see if, fix it”).
- Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training for operations management. Develop and deliver OSHA compliance training for all employees per required standards.
- Support operations management in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and CAPA management.
- Manage analysis and reporting of EHS KPIs to various stakeholder groups. Develop enterprise level safety awareness and communication program.
- Partner with VP HR and Finance team on annual P&C renewal and risk mitigation strategies. Partner with HR team on workers compensation claim management.
- Develop and manage the EHS budget and external consultants, labs, and waste vendors.
- Assist in development, training and enforcement of Company SOPs regarding food safety, good manufacturing practices (GMPs), quality, and safety. Follow Company SOPs and promptly report any concerns to the appropriate manager.
Education and Experience
- Experienced EHS leader with demonstrated experience developing and executing EHS strategy and driving business outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience overseeing environmental matters and representing employer with State and municipal agencies.
- EHS certifications such as CSP, CIH, CSHM, ASP, OHST, SMS, GSP, CET, REM, CPEA
- Excellent organizational and project management skills with experience managing large-scale projects including enterprise system changes, and system integration.
- Excellent verbal and written communication with ability to translate technical concepts into understandable language for non-technical persons.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communicator and trainer.
- Experience with various EHS systems.
Preferred but not required:
- Master’s degree in EHS, engineering, or related field.
- Bi-lingual Spanish.
- Food industry experience - conversant with Food Safety Requirements, GMPs, HACCP.
- Training in Lean, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement.

We Offer
Target compensation estimates are provided in good faith at the time of job posting. Job offers may vary based on the candidate’s education, certifications, job-related knowledge, skill, experience, geographic location, shift, and internal equity. Clyde’s may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
- Target base salary range: $150,000 to $170,000
- Position is eligible for Annual Bonus
